MALAYSIAN LAWS ONLINE BY MARCEL JUDE SDN. BHD.
Ignoratia Legis Non Excusat. This is a well known Latin maxim which when translated into English means “Ignorance of the Law si no excuse” . However with our country being more than four decades old and with laws originating from Malaysia Day and Merdeka Day and the British Colonial system prior to that, there are now hundreds of laws both at Federal and State level. It would be impossible for the man of the street and even the lawyer or judge to know all the existing laws at any one time. When I started writing Lex Borneo I received a number of inquiries from time to time from readers on how to find out what are the relevant laws covering their particular area of interest or work. For example a palm oil smallholder in Tawau wanted to know laws affecting the palm oil industry so he could ensure due compliance. Another friend of mine in Papar wanted to set up a money changing business and wanted to know how to go about it legally. Many people wanted to know where to find the Land Ordinance of Sabah. Together with a local company Marcel Jude Sdn. Bhd. we started to get the hundreds and hundreds of Malaysian laws and statutes into digital format. It was a long and gruesome task of long hours with only two or three hours of sleep every night for the last three years or so. Well now we have done it and we have converted more than five hundreds laws of Malaysia into digital format of PDF or Microsoft Word. They are now available to the public. At the moment we charge a small fee for the service to recover costs but eventually it will be free. All you have to do is to send an email to marceljude@yahoo.com or to borneobest@gmail.com with your enquiry of the laws you want or the laws covering your area of interest or field. You can also sms your enquiry to 0128030778. For example if you are an insurance executive and you want to have a copy of the Insurance Act 1963 or maybe you have no idea what are the laws governing the insurance trade. Send us an email and we will send you the information and materials by email or by post. We also encourage anyone who desires to make donations to our project Remember however this service is merely providing information and if you have a legal problem you are advised to consult a lawyer in Sabah.
